In December of 2014 it got so cold that a number of homeless people living under the bridge in New Orleans literally froze to death. Driving past that homeless encampment one night I had the idea to cook a gumbo under the bridge. My thought was that people could warm up by the fire then enjoy a hot bowl of gumbo and know that they are loved. This was actually the fourth meeting of a volunteer group called Goodwill Gumbo.
